The Tri-Clip is the first sectional matrix system that allows the dentist to place the matrix, wedge and retainer spring simultaneously.

Experts agree that sectional matrix systems are the surest way to achieve tight contacts since the strong spring acts like a McKean orthodontic tooth separator(1).

In very simple terms, when we place a matrix we are creating a tooth-shaped mould for the composite to be place into. We can either create this mould in the mouth step-by-step using our expensive and valuable labour, or we can use cheaper factory labour to make it outside the mouth. This is why the Tri-Clip makes economic sense.

Dr Simon McDonald, a New Zealand dentist and the developer of the Tri-Clip, says "The sheer frustration of using first generation sectional matrix systems started me thinking that there had to be a better way. The development of the Tri-Clip was not so easy and it took nearly two years and over 50 prototypes before I got it right.
My experience having used them for about four months, is that they work fantastically well in a much wider range of situations than I ever dreamt they would (missing cusps, bicuspids, molars, distals on canines and even primary teeth). The Tri-Wedge is also amazingly useful for anteriors, rubber-dam, wedging ordinary matrix bands and is the best gingival haemostat I have ever come across."

Let's look in detail at the Tri-Clip features.

    1. The spring, matrix and wedge are pre-assembled into a three-in-one tool and placed in the mouth in one movement. This saves time in placement, is far easier to place, makes you, the dentist, look more skilful and increases patient confidence. There is no need for special tweezers to hold the matrix and the risk of inhalation of a loose matrix or wedge is eliminated.
Up to 5lbs lateral pressure gives great retention and
seperation
    2. The strong spring, with up to 5lbs lateral inter-proximal pressure generates excellent separation of teeth and tight contacts. Excellent retention means that the Tri-Clip is unlikely to come off unintentionally.
    3. Anatomically designed tines follow the curves of the inter- proximal space providing excellent retention for all posterior teeth, even the mesial of 1st premolars. It also works well when a cavity is wide and in some cases even when the cusp is missing.

Remember, in your practice "time is money" and every minute is probably worth between $4 to $8. A Tri-Clip can often save you a minute or more!

The Tri-Clip system:

    · Lets you perform one easy task instead of three awkward ones.
    · Increases patient confidence in you.
    · Improves your efficiency.
    · Improves your bottom-line.
